Hi there, I am looking for a user friendly site to get me started on wikis. Hopefully, after playing around and reading I will be up and running with using them throughout my curriculum next year. I have a Year 4 class in Queensland Australia. Thanks for the ideas and examples.
I am hoping to be able to integrate this technology in my 5th grade classroom to get my kids excited about writing and more enthusiastic with social studies.
I am CRAVING more technology in my fourth grade ELA classroom!

It took me a minute, but I figured it out. At a PD in Connecticut. Thinking of using Wikis in my elem. sp.ed. classroom.

My students are experimenting with writing text and adding photos. Kids found it very easy to get started because the text editor was very similar to working in Word.
Just trying it out first time!

What stops the 8th graders from posting "inappropriate" material? Every other word out of their mouth is inappropriate for school; I cannot imagine reading material they write on the web. At our school they blame the teachers for everything, and I'd get the blame when Jimmy writes something about Shanique. Are student postings anonymous? Keeping it real, DJ in PA

There seems to be the main page and then below there is an opportunity for discussions with threads.

Was it difficult to get your administrators to agree to letting you use a wiki?
My administartor is very behind us all becoming 21st century teachers and learners.

Are student postings anonymous? What about inappropriate material/words? 8th graders aren't real responsible; sometimes they're real impulsive. Who gets blamed (the kid, teacher or principal) when something bad gets posted?

How can I add student users if they don't have e-mail addresses? I tried using my e-mail address, thinking I could send invitations using my e-mail and a unique username for each student. It didn't work. After I accepted the invitation as the pseudo student, the site welcomed me as the site creator (i.e. me, not the pretend student). Any suggestions? Thanks!
